The last main topic in Chapter 11 deals with the Social Disparity at the turn of the century. We are doing a group activity in class to explore this topic and all students will be given a summary of the main points. Topics to be explored: "Very Rich or Very Poor" page 218 "No Social programs" page 219 "No Rights for Women" page 219 "Racism and Discrimination" page 220-221 - also focusing on the experience of Chinese Canadians pages 196 and 197 Here is a summary of these topics:
As we studied the various aspects of Daily Life during this era, we used a chart to organize the most important information. Here is a link to a copy of that organizer. Use pages 212-217 for information. Focus on the changes in daily life, especially due to technology and changes in lifestyle. This is an answer key for that chart - use it to compare with the answers you found in your research.

NOTE: the map on pages 68-69 shows how countries are developing their economy. Focus mostly on how a country's standard of living changes as the country becomes more diversified. Ex: Agricultural economies have the lowest standard of living - Diversified economies have the highest standard of living. The Industrializing economies are in transition - some people with high standard of living, but most people still in lower standard of living, compared to countries like Canada, USA, or western Europe. Also- here is a set of study/discussion questions you can use to help you prepare for the test.
